Dat Dog Opens 2nd Location!

Dat Dog’s doing something right.  When I first heard about this place, no one was less excited about making a special trip to pay $5 for a hot dog than I was.  However, after spending a Saints game hanging out at the bar at their expanded Freret location - with great food, service, and local beer, I can tell you this place is truly a “wiener”.

The exciting news is that Dat Dog opened their second location this past Friday, March 15 at 3336 Magazine Street in NOLA.  The new location has an outdoor beer garden and seated patio, and will offer the same artisan hot dogs and Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler attitude as the original Freret Street hotspot.

“Dat Dog was inspired by the idea of being on vacation or at a picnic,” says co-founder, Constantine Georges. “It’s happiness through hot dogs, an escape to the feeling of being able to relax, sit back and enjoy the simple pleasures in life, or as we like to tell people ‘embrace your bliss.’”

The cuisine provides an escape of the savory variety. The menu boasts franks and bratwursts imported from Germany and Belgium right alongside Louisiana staples like locally made smoked Andouille, alligator and crawfish sausages. The homemade fixings are just as diverse and range from Creole tomatoes and roux-based chili to wasabi and guacamole.  Other notable menu items include: German smoked bratwurst, Slovenian sausage and veggie hotdogs. Golden brown fries or chili cheese fries can be enjoyed as a side, along with house-made sodas, draft beer and wines.

Recently named to Zagat’s Top Ten list of “Franks Worth Traveling For” in the United States, look for continued success for Dat Dog and more and more customers having a great time.  Spreading more than the mustard, a third location is already in the works in downtown New Orleans on the very happening Frenchman Street.
