BILL'S 2016 JAZZ FEST PICKS - DAY IV
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No Andy Williams, not Christmas, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the unchallenged greatest music and culture event on the planet. I hope you all caught up on your rest because it’s Locals Day, the kickoff to weekend number 2!
Today –
The Lake Charles Atomic Bomb, Boozoo Chavis is no longer with us but I am starting the day with a band full of his grandsons, The Doghill Stompers on Fais Do Do. Next up is a double feature on Acura – George Porter Jr. followed by Sonny “King of Slideco” Landreth, and a triple feature in the Blues Tent – Spencer Bohren, Geno Delafolse and Meschya Lake. At this same time you have to experience the Lost Bayou Ramblers with special guests Ricki Lee Jones and Spider Stacy on Gentilly. The next wave features the New Orleans Nightcrawlers on Jazz & Heritage, The Suffers on Congo, Buffy Sainte-Marie on Fais Do Do, plus an opportunity to grab a seat for 2 acts at Lagniappe, Helen Gillet and Lynn Drury. To wrap up, I like Tuba Skinny at Economy Hall and Elvis Costello at Gentilly. And that, Music Lovers, is just a small sampling of all the awesome performances on tap for today.
Remember to practice the “Walk By”, stroll by the many different stages to see bands that you have never heard of for a song or two. I promise that you will discover something fabulous you never even know existed. Whatever adventures lie before you, remember to always Go Hear Some Live Local Music!
