Tunes for Toys concert
Time: 7 p.m

Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews will provide a free concert and toy collection drive called Tunes for Toys on Sunday, Dec. 18, with guest performances by Soul Rebels, Trombone Shorty Academy students, Wendell Brunious, and students from New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). The concert will be held at 7 p.m. at George and Joyce Wein Jazz and Heritage Center, located at 1225 N. Rampart St.

Guests can attend the concert free of charge by donating a new, unwrapped toy. The concert is presented by Gia Maione Prima Foundation and Trombone Shorty Foundation, with generous support from New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, OffBeat Magazine, WWOZ 90.7 FM and Whole Foods Market.

As a native son of the Treme community, Andrews chooses to honor his roots each year with the gift of music and the spirit of generosity. “The Treme neighborhood is at the heart of everything I do,” Andrews said. “Giving back to this community that raised me has now become an annual celebration.”

“Calling on students from his eponymous foundation and friends from Soul Rebels and NOCCA is the best way for everyone involved to celebrate the season, by giving back to their community in a real and meaningful way,” shared Kim Turner, community liaison for Whole Foods Market Broad Street. “We’re also thrilled to partner with “Trombone Shorty” and create holiday magic for children in the surrounding neighborhood.”
