The city of Covington is celebrating its bicentennial and, to get the party started, they’re bringing Kermit Ruffins and the Barbeque Swingers for an outdoor concert — complete with the barbecue. 

The event will be held Aug. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire St. Admission is free. 

The evening begins with a battle of the bands performance between Covington High and St. Paul’s High School. Ruffins follows at 6 p.m. 

Barbecue and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission is free and guests are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. All proceeds will benefit the Covington Bicentennial Committee.
