Every year, on the second weekend of October, the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce hosts the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff, in New Iberia’s historic downtown district. The free, two-day event consists of activities such as the Roux Run, Youth Gumbo Cookoff, Meanest Beans Competition, Cooking Demonstration, free live music, and of course, the actual serving of gumbo on Sunday. Family oriented food festival in historic downtown New Iberia. Music all weekend. Roux Run Saturday 8 a.m. (5K and one mile Fun Run). Anything but gumbo mid-day Saturday. The "Battle of the Roux's" on Sunday--gumbo serving at 11 a.m. Awards mid afternoon. More than 40,000 people attend throughout this three day event which is free to the public with food, soft drinks,and beer on sale. Official Gumbo posters, postcards, t-shirts and more will also be on sale.
Local museums will hold tours during the day and downtown businesses will open for shopping with special deals only available during cookoff weekend. |
