Deutsches Haus Kulturabend
Time: Door open at 6:00 PM with lecture at 7:00 PM
The Deutsches Haus Kulturabend (Cultural Evening) will feature Prof Benjamin Benus on June 6, 2017 at the Deutsches Haus 1023 Ridgewood Ave, Metairie, LA 70001. Doors will open at 6:00 pm with food service and the program will start at 7:00 PM. This is free and open to the public.

Prof Benus will examine the pioneering and often controversial works
that artists, designers, and architects produced in the years of Germany’s
Weimar Republic (from 1918¬ to 1933). Looking at a selection of paintings,
prints, photographs, and architectural works by some of the major figures
of the era (including George Grosz, Otto Dix, Käthe Kollwitz, and Walter
Gropius), Prof. Benus will consider the ways in these artworks challenged
and transformed audiences’ understanding of the world, and how this period’s cultural achievements have shaped our lives ever since.
