October 3-12 is the Grand Réveil Acadien or Great Acadian Awakening. This is a weeklong celebration of our Acadian Heritage, which only takes place every four to five years. The St. Landry Parish Visitor Center will participate in the state wide festivities with a cultural art exhibit featuring women who've crafted our culture with art and age old techniques. View a garde soleil collection, reclaimed art, gourds, fused glass, and several other modes of art reflecting our culture and heritage. Also on display will be several quilts including the Louisiana Bicentennial Quilt. Visit the center October 3 for a viewing of the documentary, Coton Jaune-Acadian Brown Cotton-A Cajun Love Story. Stay to see samples, and enjoy a Q&A with the director. For more information about Grand Réveil Acadien visit www.louisiane-acadie.com. |
