The fourth Saturday in October 26, is the Louisiana Central Lumber Company Heritage Day & Sawmill Festival in Clarks, Louisiana. Caldwell Cultural Arts Association, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is the preservation of cultural arts will be resurrecting HERITAGE DAY which began in 1986. Inside the Oasis building , exhibits, photographs and memorabilia will be on display along with folks sharing their memories and stories with visitors about their lives -living and working in this self-contained sawmill town (c1901-1953). The Heritage day celebration will spill over into the THE SAWMILL FESTIVAL next door with live entertainment, artist, crafters and of course great food. A line-up of bluegrass, country and gospel bands and choirs will fill the air with a festival spirit. Another highlight of this day is the big role the Oasis and the town of Clarks played in the film FINDING NORMAL. You will want to bring your cameras, as many local celebrities who casted as extras will be in the crowd in addition to a film room. |
