St. Landry Parish is known for many tasty food items like boudin and smoked meats, but its most notable is a sweet tuber called the Louisiana Yam. In fact, in 1946 the very first Yambilee Festival was held in Opelousas, LA. This much loved celebration ran for over 60 years before taking a break in 2011. Because this traditional festival was so dearly missed by many, there will be a celebration with traditional Yambilee activities including an antique car show, diaper derby, queen's pageant, Yam-i-mal contest, and more. |
