Forty of the world’s best young pianists will converge on Shreveport for a once-in-a-lifetime chance at the gold medal in the 65th Wideman International Piano Competition. Drama builds and personalities unfold in free 15-minute performances during the preliminaries on Friday and Saturday. Finalists vie for the coveted gold medal on Sunday. Tickets are $10 at the door for the finals. The Nena Wideman Piano Competition is celebrating its 65th Anniversary in 2015. The event is named for Nena Wideman, a former member of the Centenary College piano faculty, who was the guiding spirit of the first competition and continued with unwavering enthusiasm until her death in 1983.
