January 7, 2016

Back to work! The last six months of last year were quite stressful on many levels. It was with a big sigh of relief that I signed off on and uploaded the Jan/Feb issue on the 21st of December. I shut down my computer, boarded a plane for Los Angeles early the next morning, and didn't touch work much at all until this past Monday. It was a well-deserved and much-needed break, and gave me a rejuvenated start to the new year. This hilarious polar bear video pretty much sums up how I felt Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, but I shook it off and got a lot of work done. Those of you who subscribe to my print magazine are going to LOVE the recipes in the upcoming issue, just saying.

Yesterday marked the official start of Mardi Gras, known to some as King Cake Season. What many people don't realize is that it is celebrated all over Louisiana; more parades roll in this state than in any other place in the world, I'm told. We've put together a comprehensive list of the festivities- it's a short season this year, culminating at midnight on the 9th of February. Drop us a note if we're missing anything from the list.

Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind. Also, keep in mind that food banks struggle this time of year; consider making a donation if at all possible.
