Bake for Good! In October, King Arthur Flour will donate the cost of a meal to Feeding America for every person who signs up to Bake for Good, a promise to bake something for a friend, neighbor, or just for yourself. This is a good thing to do -- surprise someone with something fresh out of your oven. The large-batch cinnamon roll recipe from KA Flour below would make me very happy, should someone choose to bestow me with a warm pan full!

Yesterday I received word that the Jockey Lot Flea Market in Lafayette will be holding a Rebuild Acadiana event this Saturday, October 8, from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 that afternoon. Live music from 10:00 to 2:00. Bring canned goods to help replenish the Second Harvest of Acadiana food bank's shelves; for every three cans of food you donate, you'll receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a $250 gift card. Bonus- Spaynation is offering free rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs from 8:00 to 12:00, so take advantage and get your family furs up to date on the shot.

Enjoy the features and the recipes, and subscribe to Louisiana Kitchen & Culture if you don't already. There is lots more content, recipes, and inspiration guides in print than there is here in the digital newsletter.

Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, try to stay cool and, as always, let me know what's on your mind

Chopped Salad with Fried Fish Croutons

Chopped Salad with Fried Fish Croutons

Add crunchy protein to your favorite salad: it's National Seafood Month. Here, we made a chopped salad with a pickled green tomato vinaigrette, but you could add the fried fish croutons to any of your favorite salads.

Red Beans and Rice

Red Beans and Rice

My family move to the Mississippi gulf coast when I was 3; my baby sitter was an old Cajun woman, and she made red beans most every Monday. I fell in love with them - this is what my recipe has evolved to over the years. I keep saying I'm going to make a pot as soon as the weather cools down, but there's no indication that's ever going to happen here in south Louisiana, so I may just go ahead and make some.

Large-Batch Cinnamon Rolls

Big-Batch Frosted Cinnamon Rolls

This easy recipe is easy enough for the beginning baker, and delicious enough you'll add it to your regular repertoire. The dough rises only once - after the cinnamon rolls are shaped and in the pan. Plan to make these on a lazy weekend morning.
