As part of a complete update to its image collection, LaRC recently rehoused and created a new index for its extensive collection of antique Louisiana postcards. For the first time, researchers have a comprehensive guide to the collection, and the postcard guide is now online.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Chef Paul Prudhomme's sudden passing yesterday. I first met the great chef at a Fancy Food show in 2003. I had the opportunity to work with him and Chef John Folse on a photo shoot, and on two different cooking demonstration stages. The first one was outdoors, it was  95 degrees, and an audience of well over 100 people sat at rapt attention in the blazing sun. It was inspiring. He will be missed.

Walking down her city blocks the damage to this great city is still very clear and paramount, but this didn’t stop me from taking time out of my visit to roam 22 blocks over from New Orleans’ famed Bourbon Street, passing by Jackson Square and all the eclectic restaurants so many frequent to guide my compass down to Bywater, following the path lain before me to unearth one of Nola’s hidden treasures – Booty’s Street Food. 

The 3rd Annual Farm to Table International Conference is scheduled for August 8-10, 2015, at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. F2Ti features the brightest thought leaders and leading practitioners in the burgeoning farm-to-table movement. F2Ti explores the cultivation, distribution, and consumption of food and drink sourced locally to globally. It takes place in tandem with the Louisiana Restaurant Association’s Annual Foodservice & Hospitality EXPO, an event attracting food and beverage professionals from across the country.

This year’s theme, “A Feast for the Senses,” spotlights the sensual aspects of food and drink at every stage of the agricultural-culinary cycle. Topics will include, but are not limited to, best practices in urban farming, bringing products to market, sourcing locally, enhancing sustainability, and the latest trends and developments in the industry, including food science, security, and safety.

The anniversary of author Ian Fleming’s birth is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the impact on popular culture of his most famous creation, James Bond. That being said, I really only know about music and booze.

There are lots of cool things to talk about regarding music from the Eon Production film series that premiered in 1962. Highlights from the 60s included Shirley Bassey’s Goldfinger, Tom Jones’ Thunderball, and Nancy Sinatra’s You Only Live Twice. Of particular NOLA interest is the song We Have All the Time in The World performed by Louis Armstrong in 1969’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.”
