Geaux Saints-

New Orleans was packed last weekend for the first Saints playoff game, dinner reservations Friday and Saturday night were scarce, and most anyone who was in town delayed flights home until after the game. My sister flew out Saturday afternoon after getting me through the last couple of weeks of my treatment, and her flight wasn't even half full. She had an entire exit row to herself, the departures level was all but empty, and she reported that getting through security was a breeze.

The game itself was a nail biter, but our Saints pulled it off. The Rams come to town this weekend, and we're all counting on a repeat performance, just with a little less drama!

This time of year, food banks around the country often struggle to keep their shelves stocked. If you have the wherewithall, put a few extra cans of food in your shopping cart this weekend and make a donation to your local food bank. Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind. Have a great weekend.

Best regards,

Susan

Muffuletta

Classic New Orleans Muffuletta

In full-sized form, this easily serves four; if you have a crowd coming over for the Big Game on Sunday, consider doubling or tripling the filling, and making a platter full of sliders. If some of the crowd goes for a hot and toasty slider, and some prefers it cold, divide them among sheet pans and heat some in a 350F oven for 15 - 20 minutes. Guaranteed crowd pleaser.

Shrimp Tacos

Shrimp Tacos

From "Everyday Dorrie",ome of the prep work can be done well in advance, but it definitely helps to have a second pair of hands in the kitchen for this one. On the plus side, the final bit of work comes together in just minutes, allowing you to perfectly time serving time to coincide with halftime, or at your leisure after the game is over.

Skillet Lasagna

Skillet Lasagna

From "Keepers", this stovetop technique is an interesting take on lasagna. It definitely saves time; the noodles are cooked directly in the pan, and there's no assembly. You could easily double the recipe and divide everything between two skillets; have a big green skillet ready and plenty of garlic bread.
