Gift ideas for Dads! Did you know that 40% of my readers are men? Men who love food and love to cook? Is there someone like that on your list for Father's Day this year? If so, a gift subscription to Louisiana Kitchen & Culture would be welcome, and ideal.

Each issue is packed with at least 50, up to 70, authentic, tested recipes showcasing some of the finest cuisine to be found in the state. Order today, and we'll ship out the current issue, with a gift card, to arrive next week. They'll receive the July/August issue around the first of July. Click here to order.

My sister and niece fly in for a short visit tomorrow and we're really looking forward to catching up. We've not seen them since last fall, and that was a really short trip, so it's time. My niece is professionally trained in the culinary arts and I intend to put her to work in the kitchen -- a little bit of finishing touches on the current issue, and a big look forward to Comfort Food for the fall, and yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, it's time to lay the groundwork for the 7th annual Holiday Food Guide. Nothing quite like cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner in August...

I'll ask a favor: if you have friends and family who enjoy Louisiana's unique culinary culture, use the "forward email and recipes" links below to send this email along to them; include a note, and ask them to check out the magazine. Every week, we have people call up to subscribe, expressing delight at having just discovered the magazine, even though it's been out for more than 6 years. Help us spread the word!

Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind

Best regards,

Susan Ford

Spicy Grilled Corn

Spicy Grilled Corn

It's corn season, one of my favorite times of the year. This simple preparation from Chef John Folse takes no time to prepare, is full of flavor, and is the perfect side dish to most anything you can think of grilling this summer.

Seafood Pasta with Andouille Sausage

Seafood Pasta with Andouille

This easy recipe is full of fish, shrimp, scallops, and andouille; it comes together in less than 45 minutes, making it a great choice for a busy weeknight, and even better for a lazy weekend best spent somewhere besides the kitchen.

Tacos al Pastor

Tacos al Pastor

Chef Paul Prudhomme was a firm believer in using a wide variety of peppers, both fresh and dried, whole and ground. This is not his recipe, but I say that to encourage you to give working with peppers a try if you don't already; you'll find them at well-stocked international markets, and from a variety of sources online.

Tomato Cucumber Summer Salad

Tomato/Cucumber Summer Salad

If you've eaten at my table in the summer several times, chances are good this salad was on the table at least once. Cool and refreshing with a bit of heat, paying customers will find the  recipe on page 55 of the May/June edition of Louisiana Kitchen & Culture.
