Old-Time Christmas Family Day at Vermilionville | |
Time: | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily |
Old Time Christmas Family Day Celebration will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until 4:00 p.m. with lots more to offer. The village will be filled with great learning opportunities, live music, delicious food, Native American storytelling, arts & crafts and self-guided tours. In fact, Papa Noël (the French Santa Claus) will be here and kids will be able to write letters to him sealed with wax. Our artisans will demonstrate several holiday happenings from 1765-1890 such as how to make candles, soap, Victorian paper ornaments, citrus pomanders and more. There will also be discussions about traditional decorations, gift giving and the Réveillon. Also, we will have a reading of The Night Before Christmas each half hour. Admission is $5 for those 4 and older. As a part of Old Time Christmas Family Day, we welcome those with sensory processing differences for a Sensory Friendly Visit to Vermilionville. This initiative creates an inclusive, cultural and learning environment. For the Sensory Friendly Visit, we will open at 8:00 a.m. to allow families to tour the village for two hours before Old Time Christmas Family Day begins. Once the village opens, sensory friendly accommodations will remain in place for an additional hour. Sensory Friendly crafts will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Performance Center. Vermilionville offers special accommodations and accessories to ensure a successful visit for families. The Sensory Friendly Visits to Vermilionville is a partnership with The Acadiana Autism Society and The Lafayette Parish School System. |
