Thanksgiving 2011 in New Orleans fell on a beautiful fall day, and we were invited to spend it with friends in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans. Like most of the city, the Eyers' house flooded after Katrina, and they are slowly but surely renovating. This year marked the first Thanksgiving they were able to seat the entire crowd rather than "making do" with a buffet—a special occasion. Everyone contributed something, and it was a gathering of great cooks. No one went home hungry.
Our friends Chef Phillip Lopez and Maximillian Ortiz opened their new restaurant ROOT this week. They invited Louisiana Kitchen in to sample the menu, and we were veryimpressed. Click on any image to start the slide show:

Carnival du Vin kicked off this year with the first ever Boudin and Beer festival at The Foundry and spilling out into the 300 block of St. Joseph Street here in New Orleans. Louisiana Kitchen editorial director Jyl Benson and publisher Susan Ford enjoyed the evening. Click any picture to start the slide show.
