The Lt. Governor's Tourism Summit wrapped up yesterday afternoon and I've come away with an action item for you. National Geographic supports Geotourism, and produces travel guides to various regions. They provide great information for travelers wanting to get off the beaten path. They are working on a guide that will encompass Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. They are asking people like me and you to nominate possibilities in the categories of Communities, Historic Sites, and Outdoor Adventures. This is a boon for tourism in our area. The good news is, Louisiana is #2 in total number of nominations. The bad news is, Alabama is #1. Now, we KNOW Louisiana has more places of interest, better outdoor adventures, and more diverse communities than Alabama, so get your thinking caps on, get over there, and nominate as many as you'd like. Our coastal states band together and help each other out when necessary, but still, people. You'll find more information here; I do not believe you have to live in Louisiana to nominate some of your favorites. I am once again scheduled to judge Soirée Royale, Acadiana's tasting event and culinary competition now in its 15th year. More than 35 chefs participate each year, and wine and beer tastings are included. Tickets are only $40; the event is at Evangeline Down Racetrack. Order tickets at 337-942-2683 or at opelousaschamber.org. On September 11 here in New Orleans, you can preview a James Beard House dinner at Dickie Brennan's Steak House. All the group's restaurants will be represented, including the new Tableau. There are still a few seats available, but get them quick because it will sell out. Should you be in New York on October 3, attend the real thing at the James Beard House. Fall is festival season here in Louisiana. Lemony Seafood PastaHaving made my living producing intellectual property for all my career, I am all for paying full boat for books, music, magazines, newspapers, etc. but I am not one to pass up a bargain when it's presented. Pam Anderson's Perfect One-Dish Dinners was on the close-out rack at the bookstore over the weekend so I bought it. This recipe is going on my roster for Labor Day feasting this weekend. Shrimp and scallops, with pasta, tomatoes, feta, oregano... |
Barbecue Pork RibsIt is no secret that I love pork, and I love barbecue pork ribs more than I love, say, a pork tenderloin. I don't make them often, because they're not the healthiest piece of meat in the world, but all things in moderation. This recipe is courtesy of Uncle's Barbecue Sauce, and included directions for gas and charcoal grills. Uncle's sauce is good, but feel free to substitute your favorite. |
