Congratulations to my friend George Graham on the recent publication of his fantastic cookbook, Acadiana Table. I was sent an advance copy earlier this year and have flagged many recipes I intend to make this fall; you'll find an excerpt from the cookbook, along with a few recipes, in the upcoming holiday edition of Louisiana Kitchen & Culture. Meanwhile, he'll be signing books around the region over the next couple of months; a cookbook signed by the author is a great gift for yourself, and others on your gift list who like to cook. I am really looking forward to the world premiere of Commanding the Table, the new documentary on Ella Brennan's extraordinary life (tickets available here.) I've seen the trailer, and it promises to be as fascinating and entertaining as her memoir, Miss Ella of Commander's Palace, which was released earlier this year.

My friend Jody brought me a basket full of eggs from her chicken coops this morning; I'm trying to decide how to put them to good use. I like to mix chopped leftover steak with potatoes that have been cooked down with lots of garlic and onion and put a poached egg on top; maybe I'll put steak on the agenda for the weekend. Any other ideas? Email me!

	Susan's Seafood Gumbo Yesterday was National Gumbo Day and, while I'm unlikely to tackle a pot of gumbo on a weeknight, this weekend might be a good time to pull out the big pot. This is my go-to seafood .

	Rosemary Pepper Jelly Glazed Pork Chop My family move to the Mississippi gulf coast when I was 3; my baby sitter was an old Cajun woman, and she made red beans most every Monday. I fell in love with them - this is what my recipe has evolved to over the years. I keep saying I'm going to make a pot as soon as the weather cools down, but there's no indication that's ever going to happen here in south Louisiana, so I may just go ahead and make some.

	Ham Bone and Collard Greens Soup This easy recipe is easy enough for the beginning baker, and delicious enough you'll add it to your regular repertoire. The dough rises only once - after the cinnamon rolls are shaped and in the pan. Plan to make these on a lazy weekend morning.
