Festival season is in full swing here in Louisiana; see our Calendar of Events below if you have any doubts. There's no excuse to be bored! I'm heading out to Eunice tomorrow morning for a photo shoot, then will spend the weekend in Breaux Bridge. I may check out St. John Restaurant's new location Friday night, and we're at Jois de Vivre for Dinner by Invitation Saturday night.

Sunday I will make my leisurely way  to Opelous; I intend to explore , and have brunch somewhere along the way. Monday night you'll find me judging Soiree Royale, the Acadiana area Chef's Competition. Tuesday I'll make my way back to New Orleans.

Chef Alex Patout is back in New Orleans; he's co-owner and heading up the kitchen at New Orleans Creole Cookery in the heart of the French Quarter. Built in 1734, the building has been beautifully renovated, with a lively oyster bar on one side of the entrance, a romantic dining room, and, like many buildings in the area, a courtyard for dining al fresco. The menu is extensive, featuring distinctly different Creole and Cajun specialties, boiled seafood, etc.


We are deep into production on our holiday issue, and it is shaping up to be mammoth. Out of the kitchen so far this week, shrimp-stuffed mirliton, double-stuffed turkey breast, roast pork loin with figs and pineapple, and a chocolate pecan cobbler cake. Mmm hmm.
