Comfort food: One of my subscribers wrote over the weekend asking if I could email here a copy of Jim's lasagna recipe that ran in the magazine earlier this year. She said some of her magazines had been damaged when their home flooded in the Harvey deluge in Houston, they were displaced, and in dire need of comfort food. She sent me a picture last night her family gathered around the table, digging into the lasagna.

Another reader called asking for a copy of a recipe that ran in the Holiday 2015 issue; it's her sons' favorite, and she'd misplace the magazine in a recent move. After the events of the past few weeks, I think we're ALL in need of some comfort food, so I posted the two recipes to our website and provide links below.

It's Festival Season here in Louisiana, as you can see by the length if the events calendar below. While you're out and about, a state-wide donation drive is going on, collecting items to ship to the victims of Maria in Puerto Rico. Dropoff locations and a list of items needed can be found at this link.

Shaking the Money Tree:rarely ask you to contribute to specific causes, but I am now! I have been asked by Café Reconcile to compete in the inaugural Top Chef Reconcile next month, and I want you to support my team:

1. Buy tickets to the event, if you can be in New Orleans on October 8. Patron tickets are $100, general admission $50. Make sure you select Barranco & Ford team; our chef partner is Aaron Burgau, a King of Louisiana Seafood and co-owner of Patois and Central City BBQ.

2. Donate money. No amount too small! Don't forget to select the Barranco & Ford team.

Café Reconcile changes lives by offering life skills and job skills training for at-risk youth, many of whom have no place else to turn. I have supported the organization for years, and have personally seen doors and opportunities open up for countless young people. Email or call if you have questions about the organization; let's go for lunch if you find yourself in town.

Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind. Have a great weekend.

Three-Cheese Lasagne

Jim's Three-Cheese Lasagna

Jim's been making this lasagna for as long as I've known him. It's what he takes to potlucks, and he's never brought home any leftovers. It's not as heavy as a meat-laden lasagna; we always serve it with a green salad and buttery garlic bread.

Cheese Grits Breakfast Casserole

Cheese Grits Casserole

This easy recipe can be baked in one large casserole, or divided into individual serving-sized oven-proof dishes. Add a cup of corn kernels and a small can of diced green chiles to make it even zestier.
