October 8, 2015

Today you will find me on the golf course, playing in the annual Louisiana Restaurant Association tournament at the beautiful Beau Chene golf course in Mandeville. Yesterday I went to the driving range for the first time in at least a year; it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it was going to be, so perhaps I won't embarass myself too badly.

This evening, Chef John Besh will be selling and autographing his new cookbook BESH BIG EASY: 101 Home Cooked New Orleans Recipes at Billy Reid New Orleans. If I get back from the golf course in time to get cleaned up I intend to stop in; the cook book is good, and will make a great holiday gift (I can't believe it's already time to start thinking of that!!)

How would you like to win an ample selection of Louisiana crab meat for Louisiana Blue Crab Dip, Ralph Brennan's New Orleans Seafood Cookbook (autographed!) and some beautiful serving dishes? All delivered in time for a holiday party. Click here to enter - it's free! We're asking you to list some of your favorite holiday seafood dishes, and you can be assured I'll use the information to plan a fantastic holiday meal -- or three -- and I'll be sure to share the recipes here.

See our list of what's happening around Louisiana below and find something to do this weekend. Whatever you decide, enjoy the recipes this week, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind.

Slow-smoked Brisket

Slow-Smoked Brisket

This is a weekend project for the griller in the family. The brisket brines for 36 hours, so get that started Friday night. Make the barbecue sauce Saturday while watching college football; put the brisket on the smoker early Sunday morning and it'll be perfect in time for Sunday night football.
