It's Festival Season in Louisiana. Labor Day weekend kicks off one of our busiest festival seasons. See the extensive Check it Out section below; there is no reason for anyone to be bored this weekend! You'll find me at the Louisiana Seafood Festival at City Park in New Orleans; we sponsor the cooking demonstration stage. Stop by and say hello. I've written extensively about the need for aid and volunteers in the communities affected by flooding last month. Readers have written from all over the country to tell me about food drives, church groups and other organizations putting together plans to bring groups of volunteers down to help, chefs mobilizing crews to come and cook, etc. I am grateful for the support so generously offered.below is a partial list of the organizations seeking donations specifically for helping those affected by the floods. The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank flooded; they are actively seeking donations to help rebuild. Until they can get back up and running, Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans and Acadiana is filling in; the Acadiana office has flood victims in their area also. They are requesting non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, paper goods, and/or cash donations; if you are not local, you can make a cash donation on their website. Every dollar helps. Groups across St. Tammany Parish have formed STPCares: details here. The American Red Cross has this page set up for donations. The United Way of Southwest Louisiana has this page set up for donations. If you're able, please consider making a donation to the Louisiana Flood Relief Fund by clicking here.
